8-Year Old Quarter Horse Gelding

History:  8-year-old QH gelding.  This horse came to the clinic with an acute colic that needed surgical intervention.  He survived a surgical reduction of the right dorsal displacement of the large bowel during which an enterotomy was performed and the large bowel evacuated.  The gelding maintained an uneventful recovery and was sent home 7 days post-op.  Only 3 weeks after the horse was sent home, he suffered from another abdominal crisis that required medical intervention to relieve clinical distress.  For the next 6 months the horse was treated as least once a month for non-surgical colic.  One of the episodes was severe enough that the horse was brought back to the clinic due to the thoughts that surgery would need to be performed again.

Treatment:  ReStore™ was recommended and supplementation was initiated.

Clinical Results:  In the last 2 years, this horse has only suffered from one mild digestive upset that required medical treatment.  He has gained back his weight and is ridden regularly for trail riding and cattle round-ups.
