4-Year Old Thoroughbred Gelding

History:  4-year-old TB gelding racehorse stabled at the racetrack.  This horse had a history of being a “hard keeper” and suffered from mild episodes of digestive upset and horse colic.  A racetrack veterinary practitioner diagnosed him with gastric ulcers, upon which GastroGuard was used successfully to treat the problems.  The horse resumed training and remained incident free for 2 months following treatment.  After the first 2 months the horse coliced again.  The owner took the horse home for a change of environment and to avoid the costs of using GastroGuard.  At home the gelding continued to be unthrifty as he demonstrated clinical signs of abdominal pain.  He had to be treated medically 3 times over a 4-month period.  On one of these occasions, the horse colic was so severe that the horse was hospitalized and underwent large volumes of fluid therapy.

Treatment:  Horse was introduced to ReStore™ following the major abdominal crisis mentioned above.

Clinical Results:  After 3 months, this horse had not suffered from digestive disturbance and had gained weight.  The horse returned to training, and in 4 months no clinical signs of horse colic, digestive disturbance or digestive anxiety had occurred.  Gelding has maintained his weight gain throughout the conditioning and training process (this was not accomplished before treatment).
